Jamestown Settlement Museum
Jamestown, VA
The Jamestown Settlement Museum commemorated the anniversary of 1619 by opening exhibits honoring the first women, first African Americans, and convening of the first representative assembly in the United States. The Pocahontas exhibits were also updated to include dynamic forms and an interactive exploring the many myths surrounding her history. While unique in nature, the exhibit updates needed to blend seamlessly with existing exhibit components.
Completed as Project Executive and Creative Lead with G&A Strategy & Design. Liza led the design team in partnership with the Jamestown curatorial team to develop the exhibit refresh concepts. She led the bid and construction administration process, and partnered with the architects, DLR, who supported in creating a 4D theater with media production partners Cortina.
Process Documentation
Each unique area in the 1619 exhibit received a custom texture reflective of the content, constructed from 3Form resin. Along with custom color palettes, this helped define the distinct storylines.
Extensive tracking was used to ensure cohesion between the original galleries, which would not be updated, the new updated galleries, and select panels requested for updates.
